Business Closure

Posted by Nina Brosius on

It is with a very heavy heart that we have to announce that we will be closing our small family business soon!

We opened German Toy Store in 2016 with the intention of bringing high quality German kids products to New Zealand. In the beginning, father and daughter, Nina and Holger, were working in the business. Eventually, Holger's wife Beatrix came on board, too. It's definitely been a proper family business that had grown nicely over the past 5 years. Of course it's always nice to see your online sales increase but what has been amazing is attending events like the Auckland Baby Show and lots of markets (we've been regulars at the Mangawhai Tavern Market for over 2 years!) where we got to meet so many amazing people. That's what this business has always been about for us - meeting people (parents, grandparents, etc.) that valued the quality products we offer as much as we do and seeing how much their children (grandchildren etc) enjoyed them, too! For that reason alone, we wish we'd be able to keep our doors open!

However, we have come to a point now where we unfortunately won't be able to continue this amazing small business. The current lockdown meant we weren't able to take any orders for weeks on end as we couldn't get them shipped within NZ. The current tremendous costs (and uncertain delays) of importing products to NZ from Germany (really, as far away as it could possibly get from NZ) have proved another massive challenge for us as a small business. Adding to that the unavailability of products / production issues at our suppliers has just made it unsustainable for us to continue this lovely business.

We have put so much effort and love into this business so it has been a very tough decision for us! We'd like to thank each one of you who has purchased from us in the past, has promoted/recommended our business and products to others and who simply stopped by at our stall at markets to say HI!

Thanks so much!
